How to get to UTV trails in Moab

So you rented an Side by Side in Moab and now you need to know where the best place to ride is.  Of course there is the very popular and butt puckering Hell's Revenge.  However, you may be looking for something a little more mellow but still has breathtaking views and has easy access from downtown Moab.  If that sound what you are looking for then Kane Creek Road is want you want to try next.

Directions to Kane Creek Road Moab

To find Kane Creek drive south from the center of town and turn south at the red light next to the McDonald's.   You will be riding on a pave road here, but so long as you are street legal there is nothing to worry about.  The road will eventually start to parallel the Colorado River.  After a few miles the road will turn to gravel just before you leave the river.  You will find several large parking areas here if you decide to trailer your UTV to the start of the trail.

Kane Creek Road is accessible in the winter

Many people don't realize this but Moab is a great place to visit during the winter.  Winter visitors may ask, "Is Kane Creek Road Accessible in the Winter".  The answer is yes and no.  The is typically clear but will be icy in shaded areas.  This should not be a problem for modern UTV or Side by Sides so long as you take you time.

The best park about Kane Creek Road isn't even the road, it is all of the adventures you can find along the road.  This picture was taken from the cliff ledge near Funnel Arch.   Another cool adventure is to climb the Indian Ladder

Indian Ladder Moab

My favorite stop along this road is the Indian Ladder.  The Indian Ladder is in near the start of the road at the Moonflower Canyon Campground.  If you are up for some excitement see if you can climb the ladder.  In my experience is it easier to climb than it is to descend, so make sure you don't get stuck and can't get back down.  The ladder is right next to the road, so no hike is required, there is even a toilet there.

Does Kane Creek Road go to Hurrah Pass

One of the best views in town is from Hurrah Pass.  But is not always clear how to get there and there is some confusion as to if Kane Creek Road goes to Hurrah Pass.  The answer is yes, if you stay straight on Kane Creek Road the road simply turns into Hurrah Pass Road.  The road is easy and you should be able to most SUVs to and past the top of the pass, I'm not so sure about a car.

Hurrah Pass Moab Utah

The top Hurrah Pass is one of the coolest views in Moab.  From the pass you can see the Colorado River and across to Dead Horse Point State park and Canyonlands National Park.  This is one of my favorite places in all of Moab.  If you go in the summer be sure to get an early start, it can get hot quick.

Hurrah Pass Moab Utah

Moenkopi Formation is the dominate rock structure you will be riding on as you start your climb up to Hurrah Pass.  These rock are easy to spot with their rounded shapes, as they contrast sharply to the Navajo Sandstone of the canyon leading to the pass and the Windgate Formation you will be able to see in the vistas from the top of the pass.
